Paul Callan

The following facts about Paul Callan were gleaned from episodes 1-13, dialogue from the original scripts that was edited out of the final cuts, and Paul's dossier from "The Friendly Skies." A few of these are my (Laurel's) own interpretations of the character.

Things we know about Paul:

• He was born on May 23, 1973 in Boston, MA.
• His mother's name was Theresa.
• She liked roses and tuna casserole.
• His mother died one week before his fifth birthday of cancer.
• He doesn't know who his father is; his father was never a part of his life and did not claim him after his mother's death.
• Paul went to live at St. Jerome Emiliani Orphanage after Mom died.
• He used to sing himself to sleep, which drove the other kids crazy.
• Paul almost died of pneumonia when he was seven.
• He cheated on every spelling test in the sixth grade.
• Georgia Wilson is one of his childhood friends from the orphanage. She is two years younger than him, and tried to kiss him when he was 12.
• Father Calero is one of the main priests who raised him; he acts as a father figure to Paul and loves him like a son. Many of the orphaned children under his care call him "Poppi," including Paul. He has told Paul that he is his favorite of all the children Poppi has raised (probably because Paul almost carried on the "family business.")
• Paul studied Comparitive Religions at Boston University, earning the full degree.
• He also studied Theology at Tufts University, earning the full degree.
• He was planning on becoming a priest, but had not taken his vows when he quit.
• Paul is a Catholic.
• He had a romantic relationship with a woman named Rebecca Webb which ended five years ago. She traveled a great deal for her job as a newspaper columnist ("A Broad Abroad") and most likely cheated on Paul.
• Before he went to work at Sodalitas Quaerito, Paul investigated the authenticity of miracles for the church.
• His car was hit by a train. While Paul was lying in his car, on the brink of death, young Tommy Ferguson healed him at the cost of his own life. The reaction of disbelief he received from the Catholic church is what caused him to quit his job, and go to work for SQ.
• Paul has a tendency toward jealousy in his relationships.
• He's a flirt. Paul has openly flirted with several women on the show, but the ones he really likes make him act a little awkward.
• When he's mad, Paul gets sarcastic.
• He also has outbursts of violence (which usually manifest themselves in him kicking things).
• Paul is largely a gentleman, but he does possess a certain aggressiveness.
• He acts on instinct to the point of putting his own life in danger to help others.
• The supernatural seems to target him for injury quite a bit, especially head injury.
• Paul has a bad knee and good eyes.
• Most of the "God is Nowhere" people had dreams about him without ever having met him.
• His cell phone number is (617) 555-0152.
• He possesses the paranormal ability of ESP (Extra Sensory Perception, psychic ability) and has had the typical medium experiences (seeing and speaking with the dead). These abilities did not seem to awaken until he was healed by Tommy Ferguson, but they could have been present before then - perhaps Paul did not recognize them for what they were.
• Paul is very good with children, possessing an affinity for them.

This is a photograph of Paul's dossier from "The Friendly Skies." It was autographed and then auctioned on Ebay (thanks to Devi for passing on this pic to me). Unfortunately, this is the best photo that could be found of it, from the auction. These are the parts that I can basically read, though I could be wrong about some of it.
